The proposed authorization would allow the applicant to establish approximately 6 hectares of new eelgrass habitat. The transplant would involve a native eelgrass transplant to a shallow subtidal zone north of the proposed Roberts Bank Terminal 2. The transplant project is an offsetting measure for the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project. These measures are intended to mitigate any potential adverse effects of the Terminal 2 project through creating similar habitat that might be disturbed by the project. Other benefits from eelgrass include carbon sequestration and natural protection from extreme weather events. |
