This application is for the purpose of relocating power transmission lines for the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure?s (MoTi) George Massey Tunnel replacement project. The project, which involves replacing the George Massey Tunnel with a new bridge to cross the Fraser River connecting Delta and Richmond, requires the current BC Hydro transmission lines which run through the tunnel to be decommissioned. The lines (circuit 2L58 and 2L62), must be relocated north and south of the tunnel in Richmond and Delta to accommodate MoTi Highway 99 widening and interchange modifications. Circuit replacement activities will be conducted primarily within existing provincial highway and BC Hydro Rights of Way, however, there is a portion of Crown land through which a new transmission line must pass (this application).
The transmission line will consist of free-standing steel pole structures supporting high voltage conductors. In the application area specifically, there will be one monopole installed only (referred to as structure 0-06 on the site map). The pole will be installed on a foundation that is contained within a steel pipe which will be ed into the ground with a vibratory hammer to approximately 25m in depth.
