File: #2411920

Sept 29, 2017

Location: Fraser River

Legal Description: THAT PART OF DISTRICT LOT 5421, GROUP 1, NEW WESTMINSTER DISTRICT

This Land Act application is for a Licence of Occupation. The proposed tenure area is 0.05 ha +-
The applicant is Vincent Investment Ltd., and is being represented by Next Environmental Inc.

Arsenic contamination caused by historic operations has been identified within the foreshore area fronting 8321 Willard Street in Burnaby. The arsenic contamination in sediment is at a shallow depth (0.3m below the mud line) and overlain by a thin layer of clean sediment. A sediment stability assessment indicated that there is a potential for surficial sediment erosion which would expose the underlain contaminated sediments resulting in unacceptable ecological exposure risk.

The installation of a cobble blanket is being proposed to mitigate risk by preventing the potential exposure of subsurface sediment contamination as a result of erosion. The cobble blanket is intended to be a permanent structure. Both granular filter and rounded cobbles will be used. Please refer to the Management Plan for more information.

The maximum term for this Licence of Occupation will be 30 years.
