The Corporation of the Village of Masset is applying to convert an existing lease under lands file 6401530 over the Hidden Island RV Park into a direct sale crown grant to the Corporation of the Village of Masset. Following the completion of the Haida Gwaii Strategic Land Use Agreement (SKLUA) in December 2007, communities on Haida Gwaii were faced with significant change and challenges brought about through implementation of SLUA. In response, the Province worked with local government leaders to develop a common set of economic development priorities. That work resulted in an Economic Development Accord Agreement between elected local government officials and the Province, and a subsequent supporting Economic Understanding Agreement between local government and the Council of the Haida Nation. In 2008, Minister Pat Bell announced to local government leaders that the Accord included a community land bank commitment to each community (Village of Masset, Village of Port Clements, and Village of Queen Charlotte) for a Crown Grant of land with a market value not to exceed $250,000. |
