Applications and Reasons for Decisions (ARFD)

[PENDING : APPLICATION UNDER REVIEW]

Client: BC Hydro and Power Authority
Purpose: UTILITY/ELECTRIC POWERLINE
Region: Lower Mainland, Surrey
Agency: Crown Land Allocation
File: #2411723

May 25, 2016

Location: D'Arcy
Area (Hectares): 10.18 ha +/-
BCGS Mapsheet: 92J 058
Legal Description: THOSE PARTS OF DISTRICT LOTS 8086 AND 8243, TOGETHER WITH THAT PARCEL OR TRACT OF LAND IN THE VICINITY OF DISTRICT LOT 2687, LILLOOET DISTRICT

BC Hydro has applied for a Statutory Right of Way under the Land Act in order to use a new cable servicing the D'Arcy Microwave Station on Mt. Birken, D?Arcy, BC.

D'Arcy Microwave Station is a critical communication station to BC Hydro. The existing distribution cable feeding the site is approximately 8.5km long and has reached the end of its life. It is owned by TELUS and there have been multiple failures on it, the most recent occurring in March 2015. If the site were to fail all communication traffic on this section of the Peace region would be lost and would have severe consequences to BC Hydro and the power system.

TELUS has advised BC Hydro that they've decommissioned their site and have no interest in replacing the cable. BC Hydro is proposing to replace the entire length of the existing TELUS cable to the mountain top of Mt. Birken, and to obtain a BC Hydro right of way.
